Rainfall in the Sichuan Basin has been spotty this month, especially in Chongqing municipality. Typhoons brought heavy rain to central and southern China in August, but the rain did not reach the basin. The current rainfall pattern is expected to continue until the end of the month. Temperatures in the region are normally hot in mid-summer, but temperatures in August have been hotter than normal. The combination of high heat and dryness has caused drought conditions in the region.
