Microwave satellite imagery (SSMI) indicates that surface temperatures were significantly above normal in Russia's Southern District and in eastern Ukraine during the week of August 7-13. The Southern District typically accounts for about 60 percent of Russia's sunseed production and 80 to 90 percent of corn production.
