MODIS imagery 2007 vs 2006

 

Rainfall was above normal in June/July 2006, but flooding was not a problem. (Through July 10)

 

July 13, 2006.  Normal rainfall in June and July.  Summer crops are growing normally.  The main channel of the river is barely visible as it crosses the center of the image. Reservoirs are full but not overflowing.

 

 

July 18, 2007.  River and tributaries are clearly visible, several times their normal width.  Reservoirs are much larger than last year.  Broad areas of farmland are covered with water in designated diversion zones (farmers were evacuated in advance).
