Roller Coaster Temperatures

Temperature Maps

March 1 - 31, 2009

Temperatures in February and March were normal to above normal in most winter wheat growing areas. Daily maximums reached as high as 30 degrees C. on the North China Plain in mid-March and rarely dropped below freezing. The warm weather, combined with above normal rainfall after February 7, created favorable growing conditions in most areas for the winter wheat crop as it came out of dormancy.

A strong cold front on brought sharply cooler temperatures at the end of March, causing minor freeze damage in western and northern winter wheat crop areas. Temperatures began rising again in April.
