Agricultural officials estimated in mid-October that only 30 percent of the country's winter grains were in good condition, while an estimated 27 percent were in weak condition, and 43 percent in satisfactory condition.  The condition assessment was similar to a January 2006 rating of the 2006/07 winter grain crop, which was also subjected to excessive fall dryness.
