Enterprises account for 60 percent of Kazakhstan’s 24 million hectares of arable land, and private (peasant) farms for 38 percent. Private farms tend to be much smaller than enterprises; only 6 percent of the country’s nearly 200,000 private farms are larger than 5,000 hectares.
